30 seconds of glorious Icterus galbula. Sitting on the ground in my backyard and did not seem bothered with me 6 inches away taking pictures. Possibly a Troupial (Icterus icterus)?

  • He probably got alittle drunk from feeding on fermenting fruit on a tree or feeder thus allowing you to get close to him. Alcohol puts your guard down.

  • If this was during migration, it is possible that the bird was simply exhausted.

  • @mms09 This song is "Take Five" by Dave Brubeck.

  • What is this song in the background? It sounds so familiar!

  • I've had one stop in at my feeder for the last 2 years. He's here for a day to eat out of my humming bird feeder and then I don't see it again till the next year. I'll post a video of it.

  • dude!!! i came here cuz i have an oriole, 2 blue jays.. and other beutiful birds in my backyard at 7am Lynn MA :)

  • what you need now of course is a Strange Meadowlark.

  • It is possible that the oriole saw you putting out the food, and was less afraid because of that. I have had several different species of birds come within a few feet of me while I was filling the feeders. It is amazing how tame they will become when they are hungry.
