Question:- Your position seems to write off the importance of the re-emergence of Israel as a nation. Even worse, by identifying it as the Whore of Babylon, as the ones who crucified the Lord, doesn't your position lend itself to an anti-Israel and even an anti-Semitic position?

(1) Israel as a nation.

(a) Yes, it does write of the significance of Israel's nationhood - as far as biblical prophecy goes. This may be an interesting political event of great joy to Jewish people, but it is without prophetic significance.

(b) Those who deem it prophetically significant also expect a future return to an OT like sacrificial system, which the NT dogmatically declares fulfilled in Christ's sacrifice - never to return (Heb. 8:13).

(2) Anti-Semitism.

(a) Anti-semitism is a moral charge that speaks of the persecution and suppression of Jews. The preterist view deals only with the historical interpretation of events from 2000 years ago. No evangelical preterist would call for persecuting the Jews. In fact, my postmillennial eschatology expects that they will one day be converted to Christ, praise God.

(b) The popular dispensational view is different in that it looks to a future, soon-coming judgment of the Jews wherein 2/3 of them will be destroyed. I would think the preterist view more hopeful for the Jews than the dispensational one!

(c) Evangelicals need to be careful with this charge of anti-Semitism. The major sociological analyses of anti-Semitism actually declare that Christianity per se is anti-Semitic because it claims that only those who believe in Jesus will enter heaven.

In fact, the leading analyses of anti-Semitism blames the NT writers themselves for anti-Semitism: John Dominic Crossan, Who Killed Jesus? Exposing the Roots of Anti-Semitism in the Gospel Story of the Death of Jesus (1995) and Dan Cohn-Sherbock, The Crucified Jew: Twenty Centuries of Christian Anti-Semitism (1992, esp. p. 12). qv.

To say that Dispy's might cause the end of the world (age) by some kind of "self-fulfilling prophecy" is frankly absurd and silly. If you believe that, then as Packer would say: "Your God is too small".

I grew up in a dispensational chrch and am now attending a reformed church with a partial-preterist Pastor and frankly, I do not sense at all that reformers have any different attitude or success when it comes to Christian witness and a victorious attitude.

    "I can do all things..."

  • Not working for the reformation of society can cause the world to become more hellish.

I don't hold that inaction can cause the end of the world. But we are responsible for our inaction.

For instance, if I think the world is going to get worse and worse before the Antichrist comes, I might o nothing to stop abortion from being legal because "that is supposed to happen before the end."

I have a hard time seeing what you are arguing for or against here.

  • so why read Revelation if it has no relevance to believers today?

  • Fulfilled prophecy is proof of the divine and supernatural inspiration of scripture.

Occ ult prophecy is wrong 90 percent of the time. Bibilcal prophecy is always right.

The preterist viewpoint looks at the obvious: specific predictions were made and were fulfilled.

It's amazing that a Christian can say that fulfilled prophecy "has no relevance."

  • Christianity began 'anti-semitic'. It was one of many sects opposed to and by the Temple establishment. It blamed 'Jews' for the crucifixion and exonerated Pilate, a governor recalled to answer for his misgovernment. Jesus came from Galilee, not Judea. In Greek and Latin 'Judean' and 'Jew' are the same word, like 'English' usually means 'British' outside of the UK. Christians then stood to Jews like Protestants to Catholics in Ireland.

  • Christians were pro-Semitic if Jews would convert; but condemned those who rejected their Messiah. If you are going to lay this charge, we might as well say that Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and all the prophets were anti-Semitic too.

  • to conclude is that the people in lsreal are not jews but just israelis. Most of the Isrealis are german and russian and polish.

  • I am not an anti semitic. About what you spoke, I'd like an explanation of why does revelation have no connection with anti semitic. The bible is pretty clear. Jesus said "I am the only light, and truth". Jews and Christian if they live a holy life, no lying, no adulterine, no sin. They will be raptured, right? But Christians today are nothing more than stump of a dead tree. They don't really know the true meaning of "Church". Please explain this in your new video.

  • Israel not Islam did 911 Rediscover911 com

  • So the charge of inaction is frankly unfounded.

That's a similiar charge that Calvinists receive about "not having a strong desire to witness because of election".

    It's just not true.

  • I'm am not "argueing" for anything but simply responding intitially to the inaccurate charge in the video (see below) and then to your response.

Your latest response contains a false presupposition: that Dispensationalists don't work for the reformation of society-- What is your proof for this? I would be willing to bet that we have as many dispy's in hospitals, universities, government, law, etc as we do people from the reform camp The same holds true for missions, shelters, seminaries, etc.

  • My response to JC$RUNNER's statement about dispy's "calling for" Jews to be slaughtered:

But "expecting something" based on what appears to be clear prophetic statements in the bible and "calling for it" are not one and the same.

Just because your are "expecting" the unbelievers will go to hell, does that now assume your "calling for them" to go to hell?

Not at all. Again, dispy's say that an even higher % of Gentiles will perish then Jews.

    continued....

  • Hey JC$runner.

Didn't see your comment here so I'll post it below and then give you a response. You said:

Not calling for it, but you expect it to happen.

There is such a thing as a self-fulfilling prophecy.

If you think the whole world is going to hell in a hand-basket, you won't do much to try to improve it except save souls out of it.

And the world becomes more hellish.

Whenever Christians have acted like we expect victory, we always achieve victory.

  • This angers me. This is why I have boycotted Hannegraff.

To say that dispensationalists are "CALLING FOR" the destruction of Israel is frankly reckless and Gentry should know better.

Dipensationalists like pretarists are just interpreting what they perceive THE BIBLE TO BE SAYING, not what they are personally "calling for" themselves.

It is shameful to hear another Christian brother make this charge. Both sides should stand down on this issue.

    desparate and sad
