"Minor in possessions is a criminal conviction," Judge Santoni said. "It's a criminal misdemeanor like an assault and battery."

A criminal conviction could raise a red flag when applying for a professional license, or in a tight job market where an applicant may have to admit on an application to a criminal record.

Pleading guilty does not mean the offense goes away. "That means you have a criminal record," Judge Santoni said. "You are a criminal for all intents and purposes."

Michigan law allows kids to get one criminal offense expunged from their record, but it requires the approval of the district judge, and according to a local prosecutor, Judge Post does not offer such deals for underage drinking.

  • Aye about to smoke 3 blunts

  • can someone message me what happens with your 2nd MIP in washington state:(

  • What I really think, they should lower the drinking age to 18. If you're considered an adult at 18, you should be able to have a beer at 18. If you're old enough to serve and die for your country at 18, why not have a beer for it?

  • Here in Oregon, they let you off with a 1st MIP and require to to take diversion after a 2nd MIP.

  • What an asshole judge. Even if the students have no prior offenses, he still doesn't give them a chance to clean up. If I was governor of Michigan, I'd fucking fire that judge in a heart beat.

  • Dont worry buddy.... I was fined 180 dollars for court charges, 150 dollars for a class i had to take, 24 hours of community service and a mip on my record for my first and only offence and run in i have ever had with officers

  • oh my god, ive never even heard of this MIP shit, thats just wayy too uptight, like i live in canada and its 19 here and the laws here are pretty strict but not this bad, as far as i know. and when i went to quebec or other places where the age was 18 (im 18) they were so laid back and didnt bother to check ID and dont give a fuck if ur drunk... this is messed :/

  • @UndergroundCar2nist Any form of prohibition does not change people's mind/opinion at all. One himself knows best what one does to himself and if you need help, instead you get to pay fee? :D (ill world)

Prevention for example really helps. The whole "war on drugs" is not working and accelerating/helping illegal market instead - don't believe me, research yourselves. If there will be a vote for an alternative way other than prohibition, I wish people will care and be well-informed, so they vote.

  • do you have to be seen drinking to be charged with MIP

  • Welp I meet this judge next Monday for MIP. Im screwed
