@evilnitewing The characters in PRJF are nowhere near as fleshed out as the JSG characters are. Then again, they had tons of writers due to that whole writers strike going on.

@Willy105 There are. I think the scenes that you described with explosion and dance moves actually goes for Sentais. And I can't really argue with you if you just say "There aren't any scenes you described" because that way we'd be talking in circles. But to give you an example, Jungle Fury out of suit training scenes and their weapon skill sets are actually pretty legit while Gekirangers' was not. Dub was exactly the same, except for some of the missing episodes with japanese culture.

@whsskdhkf There are very few scenes in Jungle Fury or any of the late 2000's PR that are as you described. Most of them are literally explosions with characters pulling dance moves in mid-air in front of them, which doesn't happen in modern Sentai (it did however happen in older 80s/90s series, but without the dance moves).
Not sure what the Korean dub was like, but Gekiranger was fantastic. Great show, and the action was very well done. It might not be true kung-fu, but it's fine.

@Willy105 I just think after Gaoranger, Americans are doing much better job at putting some cool performing arts out there. Because Jungle Fury, I saw and I recognized their styles and skill sets immediately. Gekiranger, I watched while I was in Korea for the summer dubbed in Korean as "Power Ranger Wild Spirits". It was a complete joke. Cartwheels and summersaults and waving their arms about

@whsskdhkf That might be true or not, but Gekiranger is considered one of the best of the decade due to how good it was. It is true that until Gokaiger, Sentai hasn't had much exciting fighting in a while. The reason Sentai is still so good is because the other parts of the show, like stories, music, etc. are still fantastic (and improved upon from older shows).
Gokaiger brought back fantastic action as well, even the Dairanger's choreography is back. You should check it out.

@Willy105 Characters thrown around and explosion behind them goes same for PR's japanese counter parts. However observe the scenes when the suit actors are close together on the ground. There are some pretty good Qin-na, Fa-jing in them. I'm not Anti-sentai. I grew up watching Maskman and Flashman when I was 6 years old and I loved its sweet action scenes. Just saying after Gaoranger, even with martial art themed sentais such as Hurricanger and Gekiranger just doesn't have any authentic styles
-
@Willy105 But uhhh, i kinda got side tracked. But what i really wanna point out is that, Gekiranger is a Kung Fu themed sentai. Yet it doesn't use ANY kung fu at all for both fighting AND morphing. Just silly choreographed dances unlike its predecessor Dai Ranger. For example, the stomping and pounding fist on their palms as show in Dairanger and jungle fury is probably the most common move in all kung fu. such as Long fist, southern Fist, Chen Tai Chi, and Eagle Claw.
-
@whsskdhkf Really? One of the worst things about Power Rangers are it's ridiculous and stupid fight scenes, with characters being thrown around dancing in mid air with explosions behind them. Not many would call that good choreography or 'cool', and neither would I.
However, Gokaiger has been doing amazing stuff, better than I have seen in any Super Sentai or Power Rangers series.
As for promoting toys, that is one thing about Sentai that has remained unchanged for 35 years.
-
@Willy105 But now, Super Sentai no longer does that. It doesn't make kids become interested in learning something cool. Instead it's filled with 5 minute introductions and the way to promote their toys. Power Rangers on the other hand after Gaoranger, actually started to become really good using actual martail arts and good choreography in the show. I just don't like this "Hey i did my search and i am a better fan for liking sentai better than PR even though it's been shit after early 2000s"
-
@Willy105 But the point is, that the older generation up to myself, actually had legitimate shows/movies that got people into martial arts. After all these actors and martial artists retired, the new thing that came out to get people into martial arts was the Power Rangers. The japanese themselves actually used Kyokujin Karate in Zyuranger to emphasize the fearsome nature of the dinosaurs and the US picked karate masters to reflect their japanese counter parts. This kept going up till gaoranger.
As opposed to PR that brings in more and more skilled suit/out of suit actors that does some advanced kung fu choreography. I think a lot of you kids are just being pathetic having "Hey i researched enough to find out the origins of PR and they come from Sentai. So me liking Sentai more than PR makes me a better Tokusatsu fan than you." When in reality, Disney created tokusatsu that is better funded, better choreographed with better special effects than their sentai counterparts

@whsskdhkf I never seen kasey being leader for the JF. To me he didn't seem much to be a leader.

the story lines are way different as many things were cut away and not explained in PR version. the gay character is RJ in PR (good guy), while in SS is long (bad guy). the whole SS story, powers, habilities are much better and tunned up than PR. also like the versus chapters on SS Geki.vs.On and Bouken.vs.Geki

no idea what your talking they both were bad and became good. The gay character consider is better than all the characters in Jungle Fury in my opinion. In jungle fury the characters arent as good
