Sinulog is the dance of devotion to the Senyor Santo Nino (Holy Child Jesus) of Cebu City. It took its name from "sulog" the Cebuano word for water current as simulated by the forward and backward moves of dancers. It has a very ancient origin, predating Christianity as evidenced by the indigenous movements and accompaniment of drum beats. The Sinulog Festival is celebrated in Cebu City, Philippines every 3rd Sunday of January..and I am proud to be one of the first dancers of the festival version of this age-old dance ritual (oh no dont think I am that old !!!!!!)
