Whaaat? The reason people chose subprime loans over prime loans is the same reason they chose subprime loans over FHA -- because there is no mortgage insurance over 80% LTV.

Every borrower, even during the "boom" was given an option of the higher, less risky mortgage loan or the cheaper (no insurance and sometimes lower rate ARM or interest-only ARM loans) loan.

Everyone wanted what was cheapest in the immediate.

And remember everyone -- IF YOU HAVE A MORTGAGE YOU ARE NOT A HOMEOWNER
