Men, women and children at Becoming Independent and other agencies serving people with disabilities are facing the greatest threat to their freedom and independence in more than 30 years. We all know California is in a terrible financial jam. But Governor Jerry Brown's budget proposal could cut millions from programs like Becoming Independent.

That would be catastrophic.

Our fees for services have already been cut 4.5 percent.
But now, Governor Brown's plan could cut revenues as much as 25 percent. It would gut programs that liberated people with disabilities when the Lanterman Act was passed in 1977.

  • How about cutting alcohol and substance abuse rehabilitation programs first?

  • Thank you to those who shared their views on this video. Education is a powerful tool. We can all help to get the word out about supporting those with disabilities for independence and a productive life.
