  • Do you just work on engines that are sent to you ?

Or can you drop and reinstall the engine too ?

    Thanks,

  • I do engine machine work, not setup to work on cars here.

  • I was wondering, what type of media do you use? I know that with certain types you can't use it because it will embed itself in the material and could possibly ruin the engine.

  • I use a cast stainless steel shot that does not stick to dry parts.

  • How are you absolutely sure all the media is removed ?

You say the core plugs are removed, do you then just spend a long time blasting air throughout the block ?

    Thanks

    James

  • The plugs are removed and the block is washed in a pressure washer, then long boiler tube brushes are used to remove the media. JE...

  • This process does expose the aluminum to corrosion. It looks nice once it is done but after a while can corrode. Not good! Need to protect the surface with thin anodize not hard anodize after shot peening or preferably glass peening.

  • mag cases should be shuffle pinned...dowelled to each other so they don't fret

  • won´t this process harm the mating surfaces?

  • Cylinders fire independent, just like other "Boxer" engines with a firing order. Only one engine that I know of had simultaneous firing of two cylinders which were actually TWO flat six engines sandwiched together with both crankshafts geared to a separate main shaft output. It was on the Porsche 917 which held a world record for 238 MPH around a closed circuit. Mark Donahue used a 917-30 to set a record at Talledega Alabama that lasted 20 years.

  • the case is two peices can be split

  • Ok thanks a lot for the advice dude. Keep up the good videos.
