Community Christian Church presents the video monologue of one suburban wife and mother trying to reconcile the trappings of wealthy America and the call of Jesus. Set to Derek Webb's song "Rich Young Ruler". Visit us at www.communitychristian.org
i love how, in the end, the girl's story (your narrative) is "get a jobbed" back on yourself. . .i think as Christians, we do this so often, and that is to project all of our negativity on others. We judge and do not love. . .and I love ur stories complexity and simplicity
I know what you are saying, and I agree that Jesus didn't damn the rich for just being rich. But that's not what this song is about. it is about the NEED in this world and how we- yes we in suburbia or not in suburbia- are all guilty of not addressing it enough.
what so many people forget is that the problem was not that he was rich, but that it was an idol in his life. You can be rich and be godly at the same time. Was something wrong with Abraham or David or Solomon? The problem is not whether of not we have money or not but is it an idol in my life. I know people who we would say are wealthy and yet they give a lot of it away. Jesus did not damn the man for being rich but for it being in the place of God.
just wanted to tell you i love this video..I think God would be happy if we gave ALL we had to the poor. That is what God asked the rich young ruler to do...it seems we sometimes think that story dosnt apply to us. thanks...Jesus dosnt have to go through your trash....you proven that
those people that we are supposed to help. We dont need our million dollar houses and our BMW and designer purses. After we leave this life none of those things matter anyway. What does matter is what we do for Christ here on Earth, and he tells us that we should help the poor. "Socialism" and altruism are not the same thing.
. I volunteer at the City Mission where I live and I see both types of people all the time. The kind that dont deserve any help because they dont care, and the kind that are trying but arent able to get back on their feet. The whole point of the video and song was that it is
We are not required to literally give everything we have to the poor. However, there are many families out there who are poor not because they spent all of their money on drugs and alcohol but because they have had a tragedy happen to them in their lives and they were never able to recover.
