@skonatrix By "too much depth of field" do you mean, too shallow? As you increase your depth of field, things become MORE in focus not less.

@francktabouring I'd have to disagree with you on that one, the 85mm 1.8 is a great lens, but not if it's going to be your only one. Anything handheld is out of the question since the 85mm is the FF equivalent of 135mm. The 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 would be a great choice, but even that would feel limiting after a while. I've heard that the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 is great for the price, either way you need something that is in the 24-35mm range to have a good general purpose lens on an APSC sensor.

Would you say fcp is a way better software than e.g. sony vegas?

Hi Im just in the process of getting my own 7D and I need to choose a lens, im going to be using the camera to film a half hour short with lots of action shots as well as close up interview style shots im on a super tight budget all coming out of my own pocket and will need a lens that will versatile enough for every shot and give me lots of depth of field any ideas ?

@shadydemo The Canon 85mm 1.8 is a great lens and pretty affordable. No stabilizer but gives you great depth for the price.
