The (main) rotor is only powered for the "spin up", and is disengaged before the jump take-off. The rotor continue spinning because it's loaded with heavy weights.
The CC demonstrator (the larger aircraft, with wings) is designed to fly like an aeroplane at higher speeds. The rotor is slowed down for that, but not stopped.

is the main rotor only powered for take off? or is it powered all the way? do you need to power the rotor for landing? why would anybody call a gyrocopter a "gyrocopter" if it powers the rotor whereby it turns itself into a full-half-helicopter?
