Who knew that such a simple trick would be so difficult for us?
This is a good way to train this if your dog is leery of things being placed on his/her face.The traditional method of placing something on River's face did not work well for us. River was simply swatting at her face instead and she did not like things being placed on her. She had the motion but needed to work on duration, so that was the focus with this method. This was taken over several days. It took River a long time to learn this and several repetitions. She was also sick for a while and we needed to take a break.
I use the previously conditioned marker word "yup" when both of my hands are full and not available for a clicker.
I apologize for the poor quality video and editing. I desperately need a new camera and editing system:)

Oh I might try this! I tried teaching my dog the trick using scotch tape but he didn't mind the tape at all

This is wonderful. It's nice to see the progress she's made and how you overcame an obstacle to suit your dog's tolerance. Well done you, and well done River. I especially enjoyed watching you proof the behaviour.
