Audio of communications during a Lancaster bombing raid over Stettin, Germany (April 20, 1943). Photographs are of WW2 crews, pilots and ground crews all found on google images.
If you wanted to find any of the images or read up on the details or names of th people search google for 'Lancaster crews/ lancaster pilots/ lancaster ground crews'.
The audio and transcript of the recording can be found at the following link, along with several other recordings.

  • Yes there were a few New Zealand only and Australian only squadrons........from what I read pilots actually preferred to fly in mixed squadrons............a great camaradarie developed between the different nationalities

  • I'm sure there was the same push with the ANZAC crews too

  • @Aussiephil99

I think the reason for so many Cdn squadrons was a push for more seperation from Britian at that time. If I remember my ww2 history correctly, many high ranking officials thought Cdn generals should lead their own troops. You will find mixed bomber teams though, I'm currently looking at one with majority of Cdns but a couple of RAF men in it too.

  • @TheCanadiangirl4 ....yes I know thousands of Canadians fought and died very bravely in bomber command and made a massive contribution........but for some reason many Canadians flew in Canadian only squadrons.....many were Halifax squadrons. However most Aussies and Kiwis fought in mixed RAF squadrons where most crews were made up of Brits, Aussie and Kiwis with a few other nationalities thrown in and the accents you hear in this are British and at least one Aussie.

  • @Aussiephil99

And some Canucks of course ;)

  • Typical RAF bomber crew in WW2 you can here both British and Aussie accents...there's probably a Kiwi in there to

  • Wonderful! Thank you so much for uploading.

  • Thanks for sharing, and the link :)
