@Wellies2k9 From watching the reply, the tackle would have been just as bad if the guy running the ball had no 'armor'. Your neck was not meant to take the brunt of a blow like that which is why from little league you are always taught to ball your neck to brace the impact, and wrap up with your shoulder pads and follow through. Leading with your head like that is very dangerous. I am sure in Rugby you are not taught to tackle with your head first either.

@Wellies2k9 140,000 people a year in highschool football alone have severe neck injurys, so just image how many deaths there would be without the armour

@Wellies2k9 we have american football at college (uni) and senior (adult) in the UK, sure there must be a team near you to go along and try or watch...
The armour is part of the game, my experience (and from ex rugby players) its different hitting..
