Took the Cub up for an evening flight, flew low over some fields.

It's a 1954 L-21B, the militarized version of the Super Cub. It was in service with the Italian Army from 1954 through the early 70's. It was used for pilot training as well as for recon/artillery spotting. It has a Lycoming 0-290-D2 135 HP engine and cruises at ~96 MPH.

  • Very beautiful country there. Where is it?

  • @bushpilot223 Heh, I bet the music threw you off, it's actually a river in north Ga. (US)

  • Awesome. indeed the cub is not designed for high altitude flights, hehehe.

Is your stick modified? I see a huge radio stack down in the middle.

we've got a L21 ourselves, but not in military livery anymore. We will be doing so in the future.

  • Hah, yeah it likes to be low & slow. It's got a King KX170B nav/com, ancient - had a LORAN when this was filmed, have since replaced that with a Garmin 396 - very nice unit.

Do you know the history of your L-21? Ours was in Viturbo Italy with the Army, don't know much more than that.

  • Great vid!!

  • @pudd750 The wing struts are for added support to the wings when you're pulling positive G's, not really because the wing is in two pieces. I think the spar MIGHT go all the way across in a Super Cub, but I'm not sure.

  • 03CobraRick, my dream looks totally the same of yours. Continue and taste the chance you have to be sit in this aircraft!

  • Oh why can't life be this simple again!

  • Nice!

  • Nice.................

  • Yeah it is a timeless looking airframe - fun airplane.

Correct, it's a two piece wing

  • It's the downbeat instrumental version of "Crawling" by Linkin Park
