A clip from the movie - The age of Stupid. It talks about present age and that we are stupid. Polls show that 70-80% British are in favour of wind energy but when it comes to installing wind turbines in areas nearby, there is a big protest. There are all sorts of reason about being absolutely surrounded by high masts (as if they are ghosts), spoiling view (as if they all look only towards turbines and no other direction), etc. Some may be jealous of neighbours making money by selling their farm for wind turbines. One lady even makes a fool of herself with is worth watching. She says she is very concerned about global warming and is in favour of renewable energy but immediately realizes that she made a blunder by admitting it. A minute ago, she was happy that council disapproved wind farm and it was a great victory for her. People need to be educated that fossil fuel is running out and the UK would not be able to survive prosperously unless considerable changes are made to the present system.

  • @thegasman001 search for 'environment about com fly_vs_drive' in google and see the first link. that might answer your question.

sharing the drive - car pooling or in other format - public transport - train/bus could be better.

  • That's a difficult question but better would be 300 people on public transport.

  • ok planes give alot of co2 but whats better a flight with 300 people on it - or 300 cars on the road ?

    @thegasman001

search for 'actonco2 Compare-CO2-emissions' in google and open the first link.

it shows that majority of CO2 from planes is due to international travel where we cannot use cars!!!

  • 1 ton of coal can produce up to 87 MW of energy.

1 wind turbine can produce 2 MW of energy.

Coal per ton, costs roughly between 30-64 dollars.

1 wind turbine costs roughly 1.2 - 2.6 million dollars.

Taking into account profit has to be made to pay off the investment of both, the price of wind turbine MW shoots up dramatically.

  • The real problem here is not that: people are flying to different places for holidays or that people are driving cars. the real problem is world population, by the year 2050 the world population will be 9 billion. thats the real problem.

  • I have decided to look for a forest and live off that. I got some ragged clothes somewhere. Will pooh in the forest and recycle the food chain! I might even meet robin hood.

  • Perhaps we should all move to rural cornwall and live on a smallholding. Oh btw i hope your paying excise duty on that biodeisel your producing.

How about instead of these piece meal farms blighting the landscape you build the farms offshore. Englands tiny enough and land prices high enough already.

We need the land for agriculture so we stop importing 60 percent of our food (using vast amounts of energy i might add).

  • All the justifications of the protesters are awfully lame which proves their ignorance....

where are the young people who can talk some sense into them :|

p.s: Harnessing hydrogen as a fuel can be an another solution .
