I visited the catacombs (in Italy in 2010)....hauntingly beautiful....whether you visit for historical or religious purpose it's a must see in Rome

@nikoz78 And that Simcha Jacobovici makes the exact kind of claims to. And his documentary Exodus Decoded was shown on the History Channel.
-
@nikoz78 In addition no historian takes The Secret Gospel of Mark seriously anyone, although you still have fools trying to say these fabricated Gnostic Gosples come from the ancient past.
-
@nikoz78 You know it's like when the professor Morton Smith of Columbia Universtiy published that he found an authentic manuscript called The Secret Gospel of Mark. The reason why he made this claim was because he wanted tenure and he was a homosexual. However, the scholar Stephen Carlson showed it was a fabrication and published it in The Gospel Hoax: Morton Smith's Invention of Secret Mark. You also have to remember not all university professors agree with each other.

@vlambert100 'Hebrew is Greek," Joseph Yahuda, 686 pg, 1982, Oxford. Synopsis: Having great knowledge of Hebrew, Arabic, Old Testament and the Koran by heart, Jahuda studied the translation of the Septuagint and Homer. He made a detailed comparison of these languages over the course of 30 years. He then published this book in 1982. The work of Yahuda has been analyzed by Davlos. He convincingly demonstrates that 90% of all Hebrew and Arabic words and various symbols are Greek.
-
@vlambert100 That's funny, because Oxford University sure took him seriously, they even published his research. He clearly demonstrated the relation between Greek and Hebrew. Spent his entire life devoted to proving it. There was a huge Israeli black-out of his research and data, for unknown reasons. In fact, the story of how this research caused a scandal is fascinating by itself. Politics, I suppose.
-
@nikoz78 Also ancient history doesn't favor a Greek origin as Herodotus claimed the Phonecian Cadmus introduced the Phonecian alphabet which gave rise to the Greek alphabet. Just because someone claims they use science does not mean it's true. For example Simcha Jacobovici in Exodus Decoded tries to give Israelite origins to the island Santorini. However, most historians and biblical scholars find major errors with his assumptions and do not take him seriously.
-
@nikoz78 I've read reviews on this Joseph Yahuda and they are not favorable. Also, one person commented that his claims are no different of the LDS saying Native American languages are related to Near Eastern languages. In addition, reviews of this his book also claim he is showing a bias for the Greek language. The author finds assonances between Greek and Hebrew, but then has to come up with the
most contrived explanations for how the two words, unrelated in meaning, are actually related.
-
@vlambert100 Only an idiot would believe that the Old Testament was written originally in Greek. I never implied that. I said the oldest KNOWN COPY was written in Greek. The Hebrew alphabet itself derived from Greek anyway, as proven by Jewish scholars like Professors Joseph Yahuda and Saul Levin, who demonstrated with scientific accuracy that both Hebrew AND Arabic are Greek in origin. But, yes, obviously, the OT was written in Hebrew, not Greek.
-
@nikoz78 And you clearly affirmed in your previous statement that everything you said was true. Even the OT being written in Greek.
@DreamingOutLoud33 Orthodox are pre-denominational. Their Church is the original church, proven by historical record, and recognized by historians world wide. The Orthodox Church is the very church who put the Bible together. It's their book. To this day they read Koine Greek. The Orthodox priest today has an UNBROKEN line of succession all the way back to Jesus Himself (another fact recognized by historians worldwide). The Bible is written in Greek. The oldest Old Testament known is in Greek.

@ibsd Constantinople was, in fact, the official capitol of the Roman Empire for 1,100+ years.
