=======================

The M1 Abrams Tank entered service with the US Army in 1980 and with the United States Marine Corps in 1991.The Abrams Tank is arguably one of the finest tanks in the world, earning hard respect from allies and foes. The Abrams Main Battle Tank is named after General Creighton Abrams, former US Army Chief of Staff and Commander of US military forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972. Over 8,800 M1's have been produced since its inception. The M1 Abrams is also the principal Main Battle Tank of four nations (Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, and Australia.). A fith nation, Iraq, is undergoing test trials with the M1A1 and plans to acquire 140 for the Iraqi Army by the beginning of 2010. Four production versions of the Abrams tank have been produced: the M1IP (Initial Production), the M1A1, M1A2, and the M1A2 SEP (System Enhancement Package.) A Tank Urban Survival Kit (TUSK) was introduced in fiscal year 2007. As of the 2003 Iraq War, no Abrams Tank has been lost to enemy tank fire.

  • Germany may have caused trouble during the first half of the 20th century but their innovation has made an impact on weapons and tactics used today. Especially for the the American military. For example, their kevlar, tank designs and tactics.

    I'm Brit. Not German. (just saying) :)

  • @MsRifle

    kevlar was not developed by the germans...

  • @xxmc117 Sloped armour was first used on Ironclads. Then on tanks. The Schneider CA1 was the first tank to use it. The T-34 was the first to use it extensively which was one of the reasons it became the best of its time.

  • Im very sorry. Pardon my mistake. The design of the kavlar helmet (the shape) was taken from the German helmet. Once again, pardon my mistake. =)

  • @MsRifle Kevlar was invented by a Polish - American chemist.
