The Tohoku Rokkonsai (東北六魂祭) , Kanto Matsuri Parade was cancelled for Saturday, July 16th. The estimate for the Tohoku Rokkonsai was 50,000 people total. The actual body count was around 133,000 people, almost three times more, and 83,000 guests were on the parade route alone. It was deemed dangerous to have the Kanto (pole lantern) Matsuri from Akita Prefecture to be performed with that many people. The delay of 20 minutes didn't help and made the crowd push closer onto the streets. Also, from the local Sendai Newspaper the police didn't want another Hyogo Akashi City after the fireworks incident, where there was a domino disaster with people pushing and shoving and people died as a result. Lots of people during the Tohoku Rokkonsai complained to the local police of people pushing and shoving. What a mad house down on the streets of Jozenji and Kokobuncho street it was!
