  • Where is part 1? Is there an age limit to vet school?

  • @misspinkpunkykat YT won't let me post a link, but the first part is called "Join the Team!" Maybe that will help you find it. I'm not sure if there's a lower age limit - most students start vet school in their 20s - but there is no upper age limit. It's based on your background, education, experience and character, not on your age.

  • Do you "expirment" on healthy animals like human med schools sometimes do or do you use animals that are already sick or injured to teach how to treat them? Some medical schools for people let students practice surgery on healthy dogs and basicaly let the students cut into them however they want. Texas A&M got busted by PETA or the ALF for that.

  • @PinkPunkyKat It's not "experimentation." Every school has an Institutional Care and Use Committee that reviews all animal use to make sure that the animals' health and welfare are protected. Animal rights groups are always trying to make the schools look bad, but the veterinary schools are very respectful of the animals used and work hard to make sure they're cared for and treated humanely. Don't believe what the animal rights groups publish about it.

  • @AmerVetMedAssn But are healthy animals damaged for instance hurt or made sick so students can learn how to treat them or do they learn how human doctors do by treating animals that are already sick?

  • @PinkPunkyKat In general, no - but it's not controlled by us, it's controlled by the schools' committees. We can't answer that on behalf of every school with one-size-fits-all answer. They do take animal health and welfare seriously.

  • @PinkPunkyKat PETA euthanizes hundreds of animals every year. Don't let Ingrid Newkirk brainwash you with her attention-seeking hippie powers. Secondly, what experimentation? You mean like how some university hospitals put patients on experimental drugs/therapies? Even if you are referring to this, medical students don't do that, licensed physicians do. Third, medical students work with cadavers- aka already dead people. So what do vet students do? They used deceased animals. No big deal.

  • I want to become a small animal veterinarian so im whatching this series. I noticed tht in the first one the guy was from UT. Is there vet school good? Im in tennessee so im thinking of going there anyway if not for this for computer science

  • @PinkPunkyKat Not usually. I personally know several people who were vet techs and got into vet school. It does not count against you. There is no limit to the times you apply - it can get expensive to apply year after year, but there's no maximum.

  • @AmerVetMedAssn So if someone was a vet tech/nurse and tried to enter a vet school to become a DVM they would not be rejected because they were "over qualified"? Someone on a message board I am said they tried to get into vet school but were rejected because they were "over qualified". How many times can one apply for vet school anyway?
