Liberal scholars typically argue that several of the Pauline epistles were not actually written by Paul. Are their arguments reasonable? This video presents a few of those arguments and contends that they do not constitute reasonable objections.

This is, of course, just a sampling of the arguments used. A complete discussion would literally take hours, and so this video is designed to demonstrate the general flavor of the arguments used against Pauline authorship.

  • This video is an answer to prayer, grammastola. Thank you for posting this.

Can you suggest an introductory book to the dates of the New Testament books? I'm going to buy John Robbins' book (in spite of his liberalism), but I'm looking for something from an orthodox author.

    Thanks :)

  • I can't think of any good books on this topic that I've personally read. However, Craig Blomberg is a very reputable author who has written a number of books on this topic. I haven't read any of them personally though, so I don't know which ones I'd recommend.

  • Why did you disable comments on your dawkins vid?

Ppl don't worship him. they like his arguments.

    On paulian authorship? hmm.

  • On various occasions, I explained why I disable comments after a while. It's a question of proper time management and establishing priorities. Also, there comes a point at which discussions tend to run their course.

Whether people worship Dawkins or not is irrelevant.

FTR, I do agree that some people like his arguments. It's unfortunate that they do.

  • I would very much like to hear your thoughts on the debate surrounding the authorship of Isaiah someday, if you get a chance (and are so inclined, of course). This is excellent!

  • I must confess, I've never really studied the authorship of Isaiah and I haven't given it much thought. That's a good suggestion though, and I suppose it would be good to stretch myself even more.

  • You are back!!!

  • While I do believe that textural criticism can be helpful, I think it does have limitations. As you have noted, it is misguided to think that current scholars would have a better understanding of the context than the writer's contemporaries or even near contemporaries.

    Glad you are back.

  • I actually don't agree with a lot of your conclusions (as background, I'm an MTS candidate with a BS in Biotechnology and a BTh in Theology), but I will say you argued your points very well. Good job

  • @grammastola Thanks! It makes more sense now.

  • My faith doesn't rest on Pauline authorship... but I don't really expect to draw systematic theology straight from the Pastoral Epistles, either. Honestly, it's not a big issue for me, nobody's faith should rest on it.

BTW, I'm a high church Anglican, not an evangelical, but on occasion I need to be familiar with apologetics, it helps.
