It was a gorgeous June 6th at the Wings Over Gillespie Air Show near San Diego. The Commemorative Air Force had their beautifully restored C-53 "D-Day Doll" on hand for a tribute to the paratroopers who landed on that fateful day.

For those of you asking the same question I did - "Isn't that a C-47? Here's your answer...The C-53 was a C-47 outfitted especially for troop transport, a total of 403 C-53's were built. The C-53 did not have the large port side cargo door, reinforced floor or astrodome of the C-47.

  • The coloring is a combination of effects. One from my Canon SD870 digi cam that tints the video and the other is from the export to Quicktime with filter options selected and adjusted. I would do it better with other videos since I'm more familiar with the process now. View the Reenactors at Fort MacArthur vid. That one is really tweaked out. Thanks for the comment!
