Shogun 2 Total War: How to defend a small castle Commentary

Hello everyone, this is my first commentary and I decided to talk about how I would defend a castle during a siege on the campaign map

in Shogun 2 Total War. This game was played on normal difficulty as the Oda Clan while being sieged by both the Hattori and Takeda clans. I was able to come out with a heroic victory and since I used to sit inside the castle as the Shimazu clan, I decided to try something new. It worked out great and here are the end results. 2090 Troops (Defender) vs 4088 (Attacker) which resulted in 1207 (Troops) and 1024 (Troops) on the respective sides. I actually find it much easier to defend a small castle than a large one, since in this incarnation doesn't show you where attackers are coming from.

@destyrian ya small castles like this one are pretty easy to defend in my opinion. large ones usually end up with the enemy hiding behind walls and waiting for the archers to auto aim down to waste their ammo.

@SignalLost730 Use fraps my friend! Make sure to turn off the UI overlay as it will cause lag when recording (usually).

@monsterify not sure, I have never played on Easy mode. But they probably still do.

If the enemy brings more than 2 Sword units and all you have are lots of Bow and Spear Ashigaru, you're pretty much screwed.

I know this from experience.

@umarfaruqfaisal Depends on the type of ashigaru you have, what veterancy they are and how good you are a sqeezing out of a tight situation.

Also it's a good idea to deactivate the loose formation right before melee combat so you don't get completely owned by charging armies...

Man... This is not tough to pull off for defending. You have half the numbers. Try it again with like 1/8th the numbers and then I'll be impressed.
