We had a huge elm tree at the top of our garden which very sadly succumbed to dutch elm disease .. that DID drop a big branch .. fortunately on the field side .. big elms often have one quite low but big ground-horizontal branch .. at least the four of which ours was one, did .. nice presentation

Interesting stuff... but I wish he'd held up a sheet of paper or something behind the Witch Elm leaf he was displaying -- it was hard to see against the out of focus foliage in the background.

Here in the United States, particularly in central Pennsylvania, I have notice a dramatic increase in the cases of Elm disease. Makes me sad to see such magnificent trees felled. On the Pennsylvania State University campus, there exists one of the largest collections of American Elms that I know of. Many in and around the university are fairly old and, as you commented, more susceptible to these bark beetles.

This is one of the better videos. Keep up the good work. Don't hesitate to revisit some of the same species and make more informative vids, I wish they were all much longer!

Bark Boring Beetle!

Thank you for all your videos, but especially this one on elm trees. I've always had a special fondness for elms, especially as an American. Most people aren't aware of how resilient they are. What characterizes them is their incredibly strong root systems. They can survive anything short of napalm. In the future, I'd love to see a video on walnut trees or poplar trees (I especially love tulip poplars, or liriodendron tulipfera).

Interesting video.
I laughed at 0:54 where someone added an "o" to the sign.

Nice. Maybe Elise Harris could guest host one called "What's That Tree?"
