Mostly everyone agrees that scorsese's oscar was a pity oscar. Goodfellas was a true masterpiece that he deserved to win for. The Departed on the other hand was a good movie but was ultimately disappointing compared to infernal affairs

Personally I think Scorsese should have won for Goodfellas and Guillermo Del Toro should have won in 2006 for pans labyrinth

Agree! Internal Affairs is a bit better than The Departed. Hong Kong people are quite good in doing this kind of film!

I know man, I still can't get over this oscar mishap... Djimon Hounsou's performance is unparallelled!

Djimon Hounsou - Blood Diamond. If you've watched the movie; enough said.

I was rooting for Jackie Haley. He's brilliant in Little Children.

While I do love Little Miss Sunshine and I like Alan Arkin, to me this was a "comeback oscar" rather than a "performance oscar". I'm not saying he's bad or comedic roles don't deserve Oscar recognition, but he's performance wasn't a big, eye-catching turn. Jackie Earle Haley was very creepy and sympathetic in Little Children and Djimon Hounsou was so violent and very emotional to watch. I don't see how Arkin did a better job than those two.

This was the last time an American won Best Supporting Actor. Since, a Spaniard (Javier Bardem) won, an Australian (Heath Ledger) won, an Austrian (Christoph Waltz) won twice, a Welsh born British man (Christian Bale)won and a Canadian (Christopher Plummer) won.
