Todd Eldredge 2001 Worlds FS

Todd's free skate to 1492 from 2001 World Championships in Vancouver. Todd skated great and won the bronze medal.... his 6th world medal (he previously won a gold, 3 silver, and 1 other bronze medal).

I quite agree that Todd was MUCH better in presentation than Plushenko at these championships and in general..Plushenko NEVER skated to his music,and was not a patch on Todd with his spins and had no moves in the field to compare to Todd's,but he was over rewarded for Quads EVERY time. Best Plushenko EVER should have gotten on the second mark was 5.7.Eldredge was easily a 5.8-6.0 in presentation from 1996 until he retired.BTW,Todd DID do a Quad combo in SLC in the short..should have done TA-TT.

Unfortunately here the judges' message was QUAD. Todd stylisitcally is well ahead of Plushy and Yagudin. Variety (what men do split jumps), speed in the spins, speed across the ice, line, carriage. Truly sad, and had he won here would he have attempted a quad in the SP in SLC? We will never know.

@1andonlyCobra Eldredge is not stylistically ahead of Yagudin. Yagudin has better choreography, better interpretation, more power and passion. He is better than Plushenko stylistically but Plushenko is so much better a jumper and skates with more power and command. If a clean Eldredge without a quad couldnt even beat a Stojko with a quad (and sometimes Stojko without a quad), what on earth would make anyone think a quadless Eldredge would be able to beat Yagudin or Plushenko, LOL!

@flipred I remember he attempted a 4T in SLC, what I meant (and failed to articulate) is that maybe had he won here he wouldve felt he didnt need the Quad to compete with everyone else and wouldnt have missed it in SP in SLC.

Todd wasn't stylistically ahead of Yagudin at all. He was FAR behind, in fact.

Todd's program was much simpler (and less effective) choreographically and he doesn't use his arms as well as Yagudin or skate with as much soul.

Yagudin's program was a masterpiece and the passion he brings to his performance is wonderful.
