@reaper666ification: I think you need to edit your comment and philosophy. Fighting is most certainly a part of Gung Fu and all traditional martial arts. They were developed in a time of war, after all. In the future, you might want to say that Gung Fu isn't meant for starting fights, because it certainly can be used in one, and was, until a certain point in history.
They're beautiful, but most of the kung-fu practiced by the monks @ modern temples are for show only. Like Wushu.
All the real martial arts practitioners scattered during the cultural revolution when the Red Guard sacked the temple.
It's sad, but Americans who learned kung fu from some of the original monks who fled to San Francisco and Taiwan probably perform more true to form Kung Fu than the ones who are on the mainland.

yes i agree it is for show but you have to understand that shaolin kungfu is not for fighting but for physical and mental strength
