It's almost here but it's never actually achieved, it's something to strive for, and something you want to be associated with even if your own version of being democratic is arguing with your wife over dinner.

I see a lot of comments on the meaning of the song, but I think it's a mistake to believe this is a song about democracy or Democrats or what democracy means.

No. This is a song about Americans, about the USA, about the things they want the world to recognize them by. It's about "national emblems" like the Chevrolet.

"Democracy" in this song is some kind of a vague, mythical national treasure to U.S., like the Holy Grail.
