Our commercial, directed by my wife Sandra, was rejected. We used no copyrighted music, and we went through our footage, frame-by-frame, and digitally removed all company logos.
Please watch our commercial: "It's a Wonderful Ketchup"
We were told that there was an objection to the "It's a Wonderful Life" feeling that we were evoking.
We've watched almost all of the entries now and we've found many, made by talented filmmakers, that were parodies or homages to classic films, TV shows and current commercials. These are all great commercials that were admitted as part of the contest. Which leaves us wondering what we did wrong?
Our cast and crew spent a lot of time and hard work to make this. And we had a great time doing it.
I'm sure that many of you have also experienced the horror of having your commercial entry rejected for no justifiable reason. We would like some answers.
We proceeded to make the commercial in good faith based on the rules Heinz posted on their website. We did not expect Heinz to use its "sole discretion" to reject commercials left and right after they were overwhelmed with submissions on Sunday.
A lot of time and money went into this - and for what? The treatment of the people who poured so much time and effort into this is heartbreaking and disgraceful.
I'm sure there are others out there with similar stories. Please post them. All of our voices should be heard, especially if our commercials were not seen on the entry pages.
