It would appear that many of the faithful Christians assume that "who is going to save you from your sins?" is some universally accepted fundamental question about one's life. This question is something that is solely predicated on Judeo-Christian tradition, and depends on the assumptions made by the Judeo-Christian tradition.

A much better and broader question that we could start with is "What does it mean to know?" and "what do we think we know, and how do we know it?"

That is what other people cant see!! being a christian is not all about going ot church, or reading your bible, or being a "good christian" (but these help!) Being a christian is a relationship! A relationship with jesus! No matter how bad you screw something up he always loves you, and I can always feel how much he loves me it insane!! I want people to feel how I feel!! To be this loved is something everyone should feel! Its about love!!!!!!

How would an outside observer distinguish between an actual entity that you have a relationship with versus a invented sense of camaraderie with an individual who does not exist outside of your mind?

This is an important question, especially if said entity actually exists, and is going to send me to an unpleasant place unless I forge a relationship this being.
