I wouldn't say that is true, Stevie didn't do a lot of things like Hendrix did in the studio environment to see how far the guitar go.

There are certain people who derive their sense of self-worth from worshiping Hendrix as if he were some sort of immortal being, and to that end they attempt to minimize and discredit all those who threaten their "deity". They are so blinded by their self-serving adoration that they fail to recognize what you point out... the OBVIOUS fact that Hendrix copied many, many other guitarists and made much of his hay covering songs written by others.

I can't see why there is a problem with SRV or anyone else copying Hendrix. Look at how many hundreds or maybe thousands of people have copied Elvis Presley, and I've never heard anyone say a thing about it. Both SRV and Hendrix were legends in their own ways, and both played other people' music. I seem to recall that most Hendrix fans loved it when he played other people's songs.
