In this video, Joanne talks about superstitions and the supernatural, highlighting Carl Sagan's plea for rationality via scientific thought and then reviewing Bruce M. Hood's book SuperSense: Why We Believe the Unbelievable as a description from the cognitive psychology viewpoint that we have an undeniable bent toward believing the unbelievable despite science demonstrating there is little substance to most supernatural beliefs. The end conclusion of both books: science education is our antidote to believing in counterproductive supernatural thinking. • Your video text says Nov 7th was Carl's Bday, but it's wiki says it's today, Nov 9th.

  • Thanks for the edit. Merely bad typing!

  • The Demon Haunted World is one of the best books I have ever read.

It just makes so much damn sense.

  • I just read Supersense by Dr Bruce, it was great. One experience he didn't mention was Sleep Paralysis, check Dr David Hufford on UTube. Many people have an unshakable belief in the supernatural because of a unique SP experience.

  • what about quantam physics?the line can be blurred everything isnt black and white.MIC

  • so agreed! We need people like him.

  • Happy Birthday Carl Sagan!
