This gives you an idea of what it is like to be on an African Safari. This was an unusually cooperative giraffe and the closest a giraffe ( "twiga" in Kiswahili) has let me come to it without turning around and sauntering away. He looked quite taken with his photo-op! This safari took place in The Murchison Falls National Game Preserve, Gulu District, Northern Uganda in June 2011. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is very close, just a stone's throw away, across the NIle River and the Sudan Border is only a few miles away. If you listen closely, you can hear him chewing on the branches and needles of the small Acacia tree right in front of him!
