McCain claims Commerce Committee oversees entire economy

On CNBC today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) declared, "I understand the economy. I was chairman of the Commerce Committee that oversights every part of our economy." But, as the Washington Post points out, the Senate Commerce Committee doesn't actually have oversight for "credit, financial services, and housing -- the very areas now in crisis."

Senator McCain is:

- Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services;

- Ranking Member and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation;

- Member and former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs

He is not a member of any of the following:

- Small Business and Entrepreneurship

- Finance

- Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs
