NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - After having a gun held to his neck, you would think it would be quite a traumatizing ordeal for cab driver Javed Shaikh, but he was back on the road the next night trying to raise money for a drug free community center.
It was about 9:30 p.m. on Christmas, when Javed Shaikh had picked up his fare about a mile away from this dark stretch of Niagara Falls Boulevard near 47th Street.
"When he came here, he jump out behind my seat and he had the gun, he put the barrel on my neck, he said give me all the money. I say okay take the money and go away," said Javed Shaikh, Blue United taxi driver.
The gunman ran off with $200, a four-hour search by air and ground turned up no trace of him, but Javed was back on the job again the next night.
He came from Pakistan 30 years ago and ran a store in New York City, he has only been driving a cab in Niagara Falls for two years.
"I'm driving this taxi to build up a center for women and children to save them from their drugs. I want it to be Drug Free America," said Shaikh.
Shaikh has a message for the man who pushed a gun in his neck and stole his money. "I want to ask him if he needs help, welcome back, come to me and I'll be happy to help him to build his family on the right basis."
Shaikh described the gunman as a 5'7" black male, in his early 30s, and was clean shaven. You can call police at 286-4553.
