Coexistence in Israel - YMCA Peace Preschool

While the media may not show it and you might not know it, all across Israel coexistence programs remain strong despite the current conflict with Gaza. These children don't know about wars, or who's a Jew and who's an Arab. What they know is how to sing along and have a good time together in harmony.

These are the children of the YMCA's Peace Preschool in Jerusalem. The program has been running for the past 25 years and strives to make coexistence a normal part of life, even before you can form a sentence, or an opinion.

I don't agree that this is *the* way forward, but I definitely agree with you that it is a way forward.

My main issue is that these kids should grow up proud of their faith as Jews and Muslims. Otherwise they are compromising their own faiths for religious values - a formula that will ultimately cause a bland and irreligious society.

Great point. This is just one way. It is also only the start of it. Hopefully one day there will be a way to have coexistence with full religious celebration.

If only the world of grownups could act and get along like these children. I am highly impressed with these teachers and parents. Many praises to them! Maybe the school director should be at every peace talk in the middle east!

Who is capable of making peace between Israel and Palestine?

I'm guessing the Palestine citizens and the bright Jewish angels who are encouraging Israel to "love thy neighbor" will be the ones to make peace in their homeland!

The Palestinian and Jewish children will be the ones to live there. So they must reach out to each other and make peace so their leaders can follow their peaceful example.

Now all we need is a name! The Palace of Israelestine. Both borders restored, one nation. COEXISTENCE.

Sorry, but I don't see anything written about your stance to religions, neither do I see anything written about your religious members of staff. You say that you respect all religions, and I have no doubt about that, but to what extent does each child grow up understanding and proud of their culture?

Yes, we do have orthodox people, not many that are Jewish, but we do. The whole idea is to get to know each other and respect the differences.
