I'm thinking it's a rehearsal or a sound check. He's not really "on" as a performer, nor are the back-up singers and dancers. (Although they all sound great.) Also, look at the way they're dressed, very casual. There IS applause at the end, but I do that myself if it's a rehearsal and the folks sound really good.

Yes, that's a sound check and because it's a free open-air festival there are people watching it :)

I listened to this and all the other Hair songs when I was just a tot back in the late 60's.  Never mind that the lyrics were on the racy side, I loved 'em!
