The castle has been rehashed and severely bodged up over the years had a few extra bathrooms added by various Dukes and big shots. The French probably did most of the serious damage.
The controversy regarding restoring it has been rumbling on for a couple of hundred years even masonic poet and humanist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was embroiled at one stage of the game.

It seems to be made up of tracts of unconnected land in Hesse Nassau/Darmstadt.
The Palatines and Orange Nassau family's are very much entwined although it is hard to trace King Billy's actual roots as some of the Orange Nassau frau's produced about 30 kids each, half of them bastards, it is said they are well blended into all the European Royal family's.
There's not much left of the gardens, but there are plenty of paintings, drawings and etchings from the period and quite a fair bit published on line, a good few already feature in Masonic Youth Video's.
