  • horrible example of a speed test as, like everyone else is saying, a sim card that says 3g does not enable 3g capability with non-3g compatible phones. all sim cards only store your information and enable you to connect to a network. the phone itself harnesses the antenna that is able to connect to the 3g network band, or edge if it's older.

get an old phone like a blackberry curve 8300 that can only connect to edge networks and put it aside the iphone or newer 3g phone. and get a tripod.

  • @whiteflame802 I don't think you understand the point of this video. I am testing EDGE vs 3G. This was the first iPhone, so it is a EDGE phone only. Better luck next time

  • @GadgetReviewer at 0:26 you state that the sim card in the iphone makes the phone capable of connecting to 3g networks, it makes a great deal of confusion when trying to understand the tests as others will be under the impression that the iphone is receiving 3g speeds.

i do understand the point of the video now that you've pointed it out, but that discrepancy will make it confusing for the viewers thinking that the sim card is the reason why their phone can or cannot connect to the 3g network

  • @whiteflame802

The SIM card in the first iPhone was 3G capable. All I said was the SIM can receive 3G signals, two seconds before I even mentioned the SIM I said, "as we all know, the iPhone is only capable of receiving EDGE speeds."

  • I have an AT&T 3G sim card. In my HTC8925, the 3G signal isn't very reliable, but in my (M88)Miphone, it works great and that runs on Edge.

  • The first iPhone is NOT capable of receiving 3G signals. That's like saying an iPhone 4 can receive 4G signals if you install a 4G sim card. You could put a 4G sim card in an iPhone 1st Gen and still be limited to only EDGE.

  • Running a speedtest from the phone's browser is subjective and does not give an accurate network speed because your phone doesn't require as much bandwidth as does a computer . To truly test the 3G network speed you have to use your phone as a modem by tethering it to a computer. When I run a speedtest on my Blackjack 2 it runs 500-700 kbps. Tethered to my laptop it runs 1.5 to 2.8 mbps down and 200-400k up which is the true 3G network speed.

Very true! Just like all current ATT 3G phone's will not work on the upcoming 4G network because the phones do not have the 700 MHz band chipset.

  • holy crap get a tripod already I'm fuggin seasick watchin this shit, what was there a friggin earthquake going on?
