Yeah, especially if I was in the 26th North Carolina, who fought the 24th Michigan of the Iron Brigade at McPhersons Ridge. They lost 687 casualties, including its colonel and lieutenant colonel out of 843 men. Although, they fought like hell and the 24th Michigan took 363 of their 496 troops, more than any other Federal regiment at Gettysburg. The heroism put on by both sides in that fight was unbelievable.

September 17, 1862 was certainly the bloodiest DAY in US history (not just the Civil War) but it was the not bloodiest battle per se. Gettysburg and Chickamauga had higher casualties (deaths is hard to tell as many wounded often died days even weeks later...see Gen. Israel Richardson as an example). But Gettysburg was three days, Chickamauga two. Also at Antietam ~90,000 actually fought whereas Gettysburg ~175,000 and Chickamauga ~120,000. So the casualty rate at Antietam was stunning.

Captured from a Civil War cemetery on 9/11. The most complete continuous running wtc attack account to ever surface from that day. The upload is on the YouTube channel: tusmorninginsept911 It is the featured upload. An over 2 hour chronicle that is like.. an as if you are/were there like experience. Not released for nearly a decade. Filmed by a US Army/Air Force Veteran. This is something new from that day that should be watched in its entirety. Look for the link; also, on this channel.

@horsesboy: Well, the “Gods and Generals” flick is basically the same movie, as it was made by the same crew and in the same way, much like “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit”; while the black helicopter fuss is funny to watch but the US troopers are a bit too invincible in it and so is the Vietnam helicopter fuss; especially as in both movies the two sides are not that lavish depicted as they are here.

I agree it's good but would also point out Gods and Generals, Black Hawk Down, and We Were Soldiers as other good examples.

Well, I must confess that this Gettysburg flick is so far the best war movie I have ever seen, as in it the troops and officers appear quite real and so are the fighting scenes; and it does justice to both sides and avoids all morale judgement. Shame that there are no such movies about other wars, except maybe Waterloo of 1970; as especially the 20th century wars are depicted in a ridiculous good and evil fashion and have generally pretty poor fighting scenes, in which the guys win always.

As filming started, Sam Elliott's mustache arrived two days before he did.
Thus space a local.

In my humble opinion Buford's actions in holding his ground won Gettysburg for the North. He was tactically perfect in his strategic positioning of his men that day. Had he failed I would be hard pressed to argue the outcome. I have struggled with the chain of command of the Northern armies (although exceptions) as most commanders waited for orders, ordinance, and men. Buford showed true battlefield brilliance and the rest is history.
