Elaine Stritch performs the opening number at the Royal Variety Performance 1979. Held at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane London on the 26th November. Attended by Her Majesty The Queen.
I actually saw Elaine Stritch play Vera Charles in a tour of Mame at the Shubert New Haven in the late 1960's when I was in college there. Janet Blair played Mame but Stritch owned the show. I split a gut. Her timing and comic sense was / is unparallelled.
Hilarious !

Only a true pro like Stritch can absolutely screw up the lyrics and still make it work. Brava!

Its too magical to let it go into the past and be forgotten
these people and this type of performing and music make life worth living
or maybe I'm getting old
