Please give the clip a couple of minutes to start explaining and showing the interviews of these great people.

Cypriot Maronite Arabic, still spoken by most of the 130 elderly Maronite Catholics in Kormakiti (Korucam) in northern Cyprus, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Brought to the island by Maronite fleeing Lebanon at least 700 to 1400 years ago, a very unique group of people.

For those who are from Cyprus, I would understand what you have against the Turks. But to have something against these people is wrong! It is believed that Cyprus, and Malta were first inhabited by the Phoenicians. Till this day half of the Maltese population has Phoenician DNA. On the other hand, Cyprus does not unfortunately, a very low percentage. This is because the Greeks and many other kinds of people have invaded the island time and time again when on the hand Malta has only seen a hand full of invasions threw out the millenniums, luckily.

The Cypriot Maronites come from Lebanon, rather your a Muslim or Christian Lebanese, you are Phoenician and should not be sucked into the media and loose your culture to Arabism. So the Cypriot Maronites fled Lebanon to Cyprus the same way our Phoenician ancestors have done so and how we still do! For example: the summer war. I care deeply for Cyprus and all the inhabitants that belong on the island (meaning get out Turkey)! As for the Cypriot Maronite Community, they should be very proud; speaking a slightly mixed language although still holds the principles of the Phoenician dialect and Aramaic language! It is heavily practiced in the Maronite church threw prayer and communities; this is how it survived for so long.

  • that is not arabic at all, i didn't get a word from what they said

  • Of course it's not! It's Aramaic/Phoenician, so it's more of a Lebanese Accent...

  • I can actually understand some of the words which these gentlemen are saying :D I'm maltese

  • I'm glad you can, I hope more people become more informed on this sort of information...

  • Very interesting. I am Lebanese and I know a girl who's mother is Lebanese Cypriot and Maronite however they don't speak Arabic only Greek.

  • As these 2 short documentaries show, they are loosing there Aramaic language, the girl and the mother are living proof of this. They actually speak a form of Aramaic/Phoenician, the same language from the Maronite bible. This is where the Lebanese dialect originates from, not Arabic.

  • "Canaanites" and "Phoenicians" are more or less the same People. they both come from Arabia, given the Fact the similarity of these languages and the theology of those peoples to the peoples of Arabia having the same Chief-God of other Gods and Goddesses called Ella in Canaanite and Alla in Arabic. though Arabic calls God "Salam" one of the descriptions of Alla which means Peace, the canaanites also named their Capital "Dor Salem" "Jerusalem" in English or Dar us Salam in Arabic :)

  • wehn i read the comments claiming Aramaic/or Hebrews or even Amharics ancestry, and arabic being the youngest filthy Daughter i find the such an argument just obsolete by any rational thinking mind and basic knowledge of language. none of these Languages superiors Arabics advanced algebraic grammar and it's innovative 3-letter root system. hence the titration of glottal lettrz in in other semitic languages south and north of the desert. and by hearing arabic just sounds more authentic

  • Lol , i am from Cyprus and i'm maronite. My parents speak like this :p LOL , THEY ARE FROM MY VILLAGE ;O I KNOW THEM. o.O
