This is a video commission for GreenTV and RSPB Saltholme, the work was inspired and created with children from Bader school in Thornaby working with Lindsay Duncanson http://www.youtube.com/user/productofboy
Saltholme houses an old WWII ammunition store, which was part of the North East Coastal defences. We spent time looking at what that meant for the soldiers and home guard. The Pupils picked out words to describe the situation action of emotion of protecting your country. We then took this huge list and picked out words that also applied to environmental protection. Each student produced a hand drawn and a digital neon version of their word. These have been incorporated into the video work. We hope that the video will illustrate the pressing need to protect our environmental heritage, and also highlights the tensions and passions that this throws up.
Green TV is a project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and managed by Tees Valley Arts. For further information go to www.teesvalleyartys.org.uk/greentv.html
