One of the biggest mistakes made by those who do pay per click advertising on Google Adwords is that they don't maintain congruency between their keywords, ads and landing pages. In essence, they don't give the searcher what they want. If a searcher types in 'baseball' but they're then taken to a landing page selling flowers, then that's not being relevant.
Google wants the searchers to be happy, so you have to be in step with this, or you're going to end up paying a lot more per click, or maybe even not showing up in the search results. If you maintain relevancy and congruency, then you should be able to save a great deal of money and keep your cost per click down.
