The Radel Taalmala digi-100 is a digital tabla that produces a stunningly natural tabla sound, playing by itself 100 different rhythms (thekas) in many taals of North Indian music. The Taalmala digi-100 is the first Indian musical instrument to be MIDI compatible. By this feature, the user can play the tabla creatively on a synthesizer keyboard / computer. It has many other features like fill-in patterns to produce a natural accompanist effect, ending (tihai) patterns, and the 'laggi' that is used in many forms of North Indian music. The preset rhythms (thekas) can be edited by the user. In addition, the user can create 2 new rhythms and store them in memory. • The older models take 'C' size batteries. The newer models take 'AA' size batteries. Please check the orientation of the AA size batteries. They should work. If they do not, please email us on support@radel.in

  • These electronic products (specially the ones in small boxes) just reproduce the sound of a tabla being played / a tamboura being strummed. They are necessary for an Indian musician to keep track of the rhythm cycle / the tonic note, as the case may be.

You do not 'play' them or use them as sequencers.

These products have been developed for the use of people practising Indian music and have proven to be indispensable for them.

  • Very technical but not really informative. I don't care if this thing has a power cord and an on-off switch if I don't know what I can do with it! A demo video would help.

  • This is only the first part of the demo. There are more parts showing the various ways the Taalmala can be used.

Please see the other parts of the demo videos.

  • Or is this just a boring sequencer?

  • @radhikarajnarayan The other parts are just as technical too. Changing pitch and tempo of a guitar play does not help me to understand what a guitar is if I have never seen one. I am not indian but I am interessed in new music instruments. But I really do not understand HOW TO PLAY these strange things. You should begin with that, since it is the most interesting part. Playing an instrument is more important than knowing what cables I can plug into.

  • very informative, where can I get this in India, especially at Bhopal or Indore in M.P. .
