Whats the shrinkage rate like for Porcelain compared to earthenware ?, do you have to throw them larger to achieve the same size after drying as earthenware ?

Hi - the exact shrinkage I dont know ,but its more than earthenware for sure , so yes throw larger to achieve the same size -SL

I liked 3:39. It shows the newer people to remove your hands slowly after you have the clay centered, or you can actually PULL it out of center. You corrected it immediately but it was still cool to see you do it. I bet the porcelain is MUCH easier to knock around than the other clay/s.

Porcelain around hereis about 1/2 as much to double so I buy the whitest stone ware that is very low grog its very much like porcelain but little less shirnkage 15% compared to 20%. I once heard somthing about spending a bit more time compressing the bottom of pots with low grog. when you open the ball, compress the bottom with fingers or sponge, back and forth several times much like we do with plates. Flipping

a piece more often and watching very closely to even drying is the key for me.

I pay a bit more for porcelain here. I had a little bit in my studio and took a cue from you and began to practice with it. Can you use porcelain to pull a handle or is it not 'groggy' enough?

Thank you Simon, I thought you were throwing them a little larger than normal and wondered if that was the reason, they look really good and I hope they're good sellers too

You might like to look up a guy called Geoffrey Swindell (I'm sure you already know of him) who works in porcelain, there's a really nice film of him working here on Youtube made by his son Tom, I love the way indents and decorates his pots
