@Theblackbarbie698 They shake their head mostly because thats how they fee the emphasis and breaks of the rhythm. Its also a cultural expression of the music. Why ultimately is not the right question ... why not? Try the dance and see if you don't move your head lol
I love the pure energy of East African dance and music. That has to be a great aerobic work-out as well. Probably better than sports, and maybe a bit more productive. I wish more people, world-wide would concentrate more on preserving their indigenous arts and less on trying to be "modern" and competitive.
Preserve those roots, and they will be a resource for renewal and inspiration for later generations of musicians and dancers.
