I remember when this one funny car racer crashed. When he released his parachute it snapped off the car and he went past the sand pit and into the wall at over 200 mph. The front of the car was bent upward and the driver came out with no injuries. It was pretty crazy.

Had that happened at night, everyone there would have had night blindness for about 10 minutes.

I bet that big Guy running wishes he had a Quad about now! 1/4 mile is a long way to run old Fart.

I have been watching drag racing since 1972, explosions like this is one of the reason they moved the engine in top fuel to the back of the car. I bet Tony would like to have had another fire wall on the car

A caron fire like Tony's was, only an enclosed capsule would have kept the fire away from him. A fire that big was fueled by a car ging 300 mph. and was blowing around the car. A fire wall would not have helped in any way. The car body blowing away helped and hurt the situation. Had the body stayed on, the fire bottles might have helped put it out faster. With the body off, the engine fire bottles had to try to snuff out the flames with air all around instead of in the engine compartment.
