an interesting way to work on a scale.
(here : Eb minor melodic). Always focus on using the same fingers as if you were playing the scale normally

  • Why so big movements? It's also harder to hit the right key when ur finger is going down from so high.

    I find that playing loud and raising your fingers high is beneficial when practising technique. It builds your muscles, and then you can play soflty with more ease ..

    But you can also do more dynamic exercises by playing softly legato and putting accents, or groups of accents ..

  • @rbDrum01 Except it's easier to the finger to move down than lift up and you can develop a technique that your fingers are doing only a down movement and they will naturally go back to the starting point. Check out pianoologist's videos in here youtube especially the first 20 lessons, so you will get better view what I'm talking about. Also you will find your speed going up ridiculously much. I went from tempo 130 to 200 just by changing a bit my technique. Even though it took couple months.

    of course you can play faster if you don't force your fingers up after the note is played, but I think I do this naturally when I'm just playing .. Anyway it is essential if you want to develop a legato phrasing. I don't really have any problem with playing fast, I can do 16th notes stuff at 192 bpm without spazzing out, but even up-tempo jazz is not as demanding as, like, Chopin's Etudes

  • @rbDrum01 Many professors seems to forget how important a good posture is and how much it can affect to your playing. Well in mastercourse there is always a bit hurry, so they will pick up the thing they think needs most work. I can't imagine why you would need to force your fingers up because of a legato phrasing. Well playing fast is kinda vague subject anyway since there is also questions like: "can you keep the tempo, is it even and will you burn out?" Chopin etudes are still mediocre level.

  • @Aul1kki I wasn't very clear (sorry my english is ..mediocre level, haha), what I wanted to say is precisely that you must not force your fingers when playing, all the more playing legato .. I only use it to strenghten my fingers while practising, and sometimes to create a certain musical effect.. But yeah, I'm not a classical player at all, for me Chopin etudes are tough job, mainly because when I tried to learn some of them, I didn't have time to practise them enough.

  • @rbDrum01 Well chopin's etudes needs quite a lot of time. 3-6 months per etude is minimum. However if you are familiar with the technique of course you don't need that much time. However always try to explore more to find that same musical effect with different way and then decide which one is better. Dunno why it's so interesting!

  • le metal "extrême" est une voie secondaire que j'essaie de développer en batterie, mais de toute façon ce n'est pas un domaine qui permet de gagner sa vie donc mieux vaut mettre ses priorités ailleurs.

    Pour la formation, ça se passe chez Didier Lockwood (CMDL); Le résultat de la sélection (audition) sera communiqué dans le courant du mois, donc savoir si je suis pris ou pas..

    Quel est ton pseudo sur la drummerie ?

    Sinon oui je suis musicien aussi, batteur et c'est grâce à la drummerie que j'ai eu ouïe de ton talent...Bonne chance pour ton école et j'éspère que tu te rapprocheras chaque jour un peu plus de ta propre voie de création! ta technique le mérite.
