  • Thank you for posting this! My boys (border collies) both will shake with both hands, but they always sit to shake. They also sit before and after spins. How do you get them to stop sitting before and after each trick?

  • @sethev Haven't met this problem so just guessing! Maybe they've chained the 2 things together? So they think both are necessary for the reward. Also, they may have got so used to sitting automatically (do you do Obed with those "automatic sits" when you stop Heeling? I've avoided teaching Honey that coz altho looks great in Obedience ring, really messes up your dancing! Yr dog needs to look to you for each cue, not do anything automatically in dancing, coz your choreography will keep changing.

  • @sethev Have you taught them a Stand command? If so, go back to that and start again trying to elicit the paw raise from Stand position. If they Sit first, no reward (even if they then offer paw) - just break off & start again. Try with them standing NEXT to you rather than in front, as many dogs auto sit when in front. If they auto sit in Heel, put them on your right. Also, maybe start asking for other actions without Sit linked, so they learn to separate the behaviours. Hope this helps!

  • thank you for this video! my dog picked it up super quick! but he is stubborn and will only do it when I offer him a treat or some food, any way of getting around this? thought about clicker training maybe? :)

  • Thank you so much for "not do anything automatically" and about going back to "stand". Such simple and good solutions! I came to the conclusion yesterday that I MUST stop trying to work with them together. They always want to "work with Mommy", so I feel sorry for the one who is left out, even for 15 minutes. I just got the young one 6 months ago, and since then I've been giving lots of 'sit' and 'down' commands, just because their energy level is so high - too high for me!

  • Thank you for posting your video. I taught my four dogs to prance last year, but was never able to get it on cue as a useable trick. I was depending on a verbal cue and/or a point at their foot. Linking the behavior to my leg lift is the missing piece. Also I can see how starting with the dog sitting instead of standing makes it much easier for them to understand the ultimate cue.

  • @sparrowcrazy I ment "dog" not dig of course;P

  • @sparrowcrazy Oh what do you know.. worked just fine, seems the dig is bigger than I thought, lol, thank you so much for this video helped a lot with my dog.^^

  • Lol that is all good when you have a GD what do you do with a smaller dog, like when you can't reach it's paws when your standing up;)

    Btw great dog you have!=)

  • Thanks! You 2 are great!
